Meet our MC Guy Marriage

Guy is the MC for the day at Notion, where he will help stir the discussion along and get you all thinking about utilising massive pieces of timber for your next project.

Guy Marriage is an Architect at First Light Studio in Wellington and a lecturer at Victoria University of Wellington.
He is also the author of a recent book, Tall: the Design and Construction of High-Rise Architecture. He’s currently working on his sequel book, Taller, looking at the construction of High-Rise Timber apartment buildings. He literally lives, eats and breathes architecture, and loves big bits of wood.

John will be discussing where and how DfMA Methodologies add project value. Providing an overview of Mass Timber Products and Systems before outlining the features and benefits of Cross Laminated Timber specifically. Finally John will be covering how thinking differently about engagement – the time of tendering is dead so how do we achieve early contract/consult engagement and commercial tensions?

The future of high performance timber products by Ben Campbell – Technical Director from Abodo Wood

Many exterior timbers are harvested from unsustainable old growth forests or are treated with harmful chemicals. Abodo is addressing this problem by applying the latest technology and know how to New Zealand’s plantation timber resource. The Vulcan range of New Zealand made thermally modified pine products are positioned as a high performance local alternative to imported old growth western red cedar.

Learn about the use of Laminated Veneer Lumber (LVL) in residential and commercial applications. Jeremy Van Diepen, Senior Structural Engineer at Futurebuild LVL will be exploring fundamentals of LVL, the key benefits of using LVL and examples of the use of LVL in large-scale applications.
